At the beginning of the spring term, it’s easy to believe that exam season is miles away - but, as we all know, it always ends up creeping up much sooner than we expect.

With a few months to go before pupils take their first steps into the exam hall, there’s still time to make sure they’re given the best possible chance to thrive once they turn over the front cover of that paper.

Online 3:1 and 1:1 tutoring have been proven to be highly impactful interventions, helping to close learning gaps and boost confidence in a relatively short period of time. Unlike other interventions, online tutoring is flexible, quick to set up, and is subsidised by the National Tutoring Programme (NTP) - a grant that all mainstream schools receive.

So how can schools best utilise online tutoring in the months ahead to get their pupils properly prepared for their exams? We’ve created the Tuition Roadmap to show you exactly how you can squeeze the most out of tutoring over the next few months (and use up all of that grant before it’s clawed back!)

1. Provide consistent, weekly support

You’ve likely identified learning gaps in some of your pupils through mock exams. Maybe some of them have been disengaged with school, while others were impacted by the pandemic, or have simply struggled with a few tricky topics.

With many weeks to go before exams officially kick off, there’s still time to get your pupils enrolled in weekly lessons with a tutor who can personalise the curriculum to what they need. Just show the tutor where the gaps are, and they’ll give your pupils targeted support to ensure they head into the exam hall feeling confident.

Your best match: MyTutor Core. One 55-minute lesson a week, for 10-12 weeks.

2. Give struggling pupils a boost

Some pupils may benefit from intensive support around the subjects they’re finding difficult, especially if they’re likely to disengage with learning over a longer period, or they need a helping hand in the few weeks before exams begin.

In the 6 weeks leading up to June, try upping tutoring lessons to twice per week.

Your best match: MyTutor Boost. Two 55-minute lessons a week, for 6 weeks.

3. Utilise the holidays

Pupils can let their knowledge slip over the holidays. While rest is crucial, especially ahead of busy periods like exams, it’s also important to keep their brains in gear and use that precious time to deliver an extra dose of confidence-boosting, personalised learning.

Over breaks like February half-term and Easter, keep your pupils thinking with intensive group courses. They’ll still get time to rest and relax, but their exam prep and revision will be supported by expert tutors who can guide them through.

Your best match: MyTutor Superboost. 10-12 55-minute lessons, in just 1-2 weeks.
